Greenville, S.C. – Meg Lingo scored just over a minute into overtime and Furman women's lacrosse outlasted Campbell, 15-14, on Friday night in Paladin Stadium. The win moves Furman to 5-3 on the year, while the loss drops Campbell to 3-5.
Hannah Feinberg and Paige Gamble led Furman with four goals each, while Meg Lingo and Devon Horine each added three. Hope Herline also added a goal for the Paladins, while freshman Abby Shields led the team in assists with three. Courtney Baker played 31:06 in goal for the Paladins, getting the win while making six saves.
Meg Lingo scored just 1:30 into game play to give the Paladins the early 1-0 lead, but Campbell responded with back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead with 24:41 remaining in the half. Hannah Feinberg scored her first goal of the day to tie the game at two, then the Camels regained the lead with 17:42 remaining. Both teams were held off the board for the next six minutes of game time, before Feinberg scored again, this time on an assist from Paige Gamble, to tie the game at three. Campbell responded with back-to-back goals to take a 5-3 lead, but Devon Horine scored her first goal of the day with 1:20 to go in the half to send the teams to the locker rooms with Campbell leading 5-4.
Furman won the first three draws of the second half, resulting in three-straight goals and giving the Paladins a 7-5 lead with just 1:57 gone in the half. The Paladins tacked on another goal to take an 8-5 lead with 27:35 to go, before Campbell netted back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 8-7 with 22:36 remaining. The teams then traded goals until Campbell rattled off three-straight to take an 11-10 lead with 9:39 remaining. Furman netted three-straight goals of its own to take a 13-11 lead with 7:44 to go, but the Camels responded with three-straight to take a 14-13 advantage with 1:20 to go. Hannah Feinberg scored with 1:02 remaining to tie the game at 14 and Courtney Baker made a huge save with 15 seconds to go to send the game to overtime tied at 14.
Furman won the overtime draw and on her second shot of the period, Meg Lingo netted her third goal of the day, giving Furman the 15-14 win.
Campbell was led by Loren Day with five goals on the day, while seven other players also scored. Merredith Bechler played the entire game for the Camels, making a team-high 11 saves.
Furman is back in action on March 26, closing out the non-conference portion of the 2016 season at Johns Hopkins.
