Furman Blanks Chattanooga, 7-0, To Open SoCon Season

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman blanked Chattanooga, 7-0, Saturday in the team's SoCon opener at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. 

The Paladins won two out of three doubles matches to claim the opening point.  Sophomore Cameron Green and rookie Alex Steryous downed Derrick Brown and Nick Wingord, 6-1, at flight two, and sophomore Josh Pistorius and junior Adam Steryous posted a 6-1 victory versus Pablo Llebeili and Paul LaHue at number three.  The Mocs' Lucas Plesky and Luke Saunders teamed up for a 7-6(5) win over seniors Ben Horst and Matt Browne in the top-seeded contest.

Furman swept the singles matches in straight sets for the victory.  Adam Steryous posted a 6-2, 6-3 advantage against Plesky at flight one, and Browne bested Saunders, 6-2, 7-6, at flight two.  In the number three match, Green beat Wingord, 7-6, 6-2, and at flight four, Horst recorded a 6-4, 7-5 win over Llebeili.  Alex Steryous defeated Brown, 7-6, 6-2, at flight five, and at number six, Pistorius posted a 6-0, 6-1 mark over LaHue.

The Paladins (6-7, 1-0 SoCon) play host to The Citadel Friday at 3 p.m.
