GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman rolled past USC Upstate, 6-1, Wednesday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. 

The Paladins swept the doubles matches to claim the opening point.  Seniors Ben Horst and Matt Browne beat Ramon Simonetti and Ankush Arora, 7-5, at flight one, and sophomore Cameron Green and rookie Alex Steryous teamed up for a 7-5 win over Lenhard Haupt and Ignacio Garrido at flight two.  In the third-seeded contest, sophomore Josh Pistorius and junior Adam Steryous defeated Jamie Yates and Matt Bennion, 6-0.

Furman won five of six singles matches for the victory.  Adam Steryous held on for a 6-0, 7-6(4) victory against Simonetti in the top-seeded match-up, and Green downed Yates, 6-1, 6-4, at flight three.  In the number four match, Horst posted a 6-1, 7-6(6) advantage versus Garrido, and Pistorius topped Rajanvir Dharni, 6-2, 7-5, at number five.  At flight six, Alex Steryous notched a 6-4, 6-4 win over Thomas Venere.

The Spartans scored their lone point at flight two, where Arora defeated Browne, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.

Furman (4-6) hits the road next week for a Spring Break trip to California.  The Paladins will square off against UC Irvine on March 6 and face Gonzaga on March 8.  Both matches will be played in San Diego.
