Men's Lacrosse Falls at Mount St. Mary's, 10-8

Greenville, S.C. – Chris DiPretoro recorded a hat trick for the Mountaineers and Mount St. Mary's out-lasted Furman men's lacrosse on Saturday, 10-8. The win moves the Mount to 3-2 on the year, while the loss drops the Paladins to 0-4.

Furman was led offensively by Jonah Moore and David Williamson, each tallying two goals, while Matthew VanGalen, Zach Scott, Ben Levin, and Jon Vandenberg each added one. Hil Blaze went 12-20 from the faceoff 'X' and sophomore goalie Reilly McDermott made 11 saves for the Paladins.

Chris DiPretoro scored three goals for Mount St. Mary's, while three other players each added two. Goalie Matt Vierheller matched Reilly McDermott's outing with 11 saves of his own.

Furman opened the scoring on Jon Vandenberg's first goal of the season on an assist from Patrick Reilly with 5:50 left in the first. The Mount evened the game at one with 3:05 to go, then took a 2-1 lead on a Justin Gosnell goal with just five seconds left in the quarter.

The Paladins tied the game at one on Zach Scott's first career goal with 12:17 to go in the second, but the Mount netted two goals in just 30 seconds to take the 4-2 lead with 10 minutes left in the half. Jonah Moore then scored his first goal of the day on an assist from Gus Pinsoneault to cut the lead to 4-3 with 7:22 remaining in the half. The teams buckled down on defense and kept one another off the board to send the game to half time with Mount St. Mary's holding on to a 4-3 lead.

Furman came out in the second half and got a man-up goal from Ben Levin to again tie the game, but the Mount came right back to take a one-goal lead at 5-4 with 11:37 remaining. Furman again rallied on a goal by David Williamson, but back-to-back goals gave Mount St. Mary's the 7-5 lead with 2:52 remaining in the third. Jonah Moore then netted his second goal of the day, this time on an assist from Chase Hancock to cut the lead to one at 7-6 heading to the fourth quarter.

The Mount opened up a four-goal lead with 6:15 to goal, and even though the Paladins got back-to-back goals from Matthew VanGalen and David Williamson, Furman couldn't overcome the deficit, falling to Mount St. Mary's, 10-8.

Furman faces a quick turnaround, as the Paladins are back in action on Tuesday, March 8, hosting Penn State in Paladin Stadium for a 12:00 p.m. clash.
