Penn State Downs Furman Men's Lacrosse on Tuesday

Greenville, S.C. – Ten different players scored and Penn State used a balanced offensive attack to down Furman men's lacrosse, 16-7, on Tuesday afternoon in Paladin Stadium. The win moves the Nittany Lions to 4-2 on the season, while the loss drops the Paladins to 0-5.

Chase Hancock led Furman with two goals on the afternoon, while David Williamson, Zach Scott, Finn Barry, Stephen Wierzbicki, and J.J. McDaid each added one. Williamson paced the Paladins in points with three, as he added two assists to his stat line.

Zach Scott got the Paladins on the board in the first period, drawing the score even at one on an assist from David Williamson. The Nittany Lions then used a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 lead, before Chase Hancock netted an unassisted goal to cut the Penn State lead in half with 11:25 to go in the second. Both teams played solid defense for the game's next 10 minutes, until TJ Sanders gave the Nittany Lions the 5-2 lead heading into halftime.

Penn State upped its lead to 7-2 to open the third, before Chase Hancock netted his second goal of the day with 11:18 to go to pull Furman within four at 7-3. The Nittany Lions then used a 7-0 scoring run to open up a 14-3 lead, before J.J. McDaid scored his first goal of the year as the period buzzer sounded.

Furman out-scored Penn State 3-2 over the game's final 15 minutes, but couldn't overcome the earlier deficit, falling to the Nittany Lions, 16-7.

Furman is back in action on Saturday, March 12, taking on Air Force in Denver, Colo. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. eastern.
