Box Score SAN DIEGO, CALIF. – Furman topped Gonzaga, 4-3, Tuesday in men's tennis action in San Diego, Calif.
The Paladins captured two out of three doubles matches to take the opening point. Sophomore Cameron Green and rookie Alex Steryous downed Emilio Moreno and Ruadhan O'Sullivan, 6-2, at flight two, and junior Adam Steryous and sophomore Josh Pistorius teamed up for a 6-3 win over Vincente Varas and Connor Arend, 6-3, at number three. The Bulldogs pulled out the win in the top-seeded contest, as Hayden Smith and Jordan Smith defeated Furman seniors Matt Browne and Ben Horst, 6-0.
Furman won three singles matches for the team victory. In the top-flighted match-up, Adam Steryous beat Hayden Smith, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, and Horst recorded a 6-3, 6-3 victory against Moreno at flight four. In the number six contest, Alex Steryous posted a 6-1, 6-4 advantage versus Arend.
Gonzaga scored three singles points, as O'Sullivan notched a 7-6, 6-2 win against Green at flight two, and Jordan Smith downed Brown, 6-4, 6-1, in the flight two match. At flight five, Varas defeated Pistorius, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2.
The Paladins (5-7) return to Greenville to open a four-match home stand versus Chattanooga on March 19 in the team's SoCon opener.
