Box Score Greenville, S.C. – Ashley Trice scored a team-high four goals and Abby Shields dished out five assists as Furman downed Detroit, 14-12, on Sunday afternoon in Paladin Stadium. The win moves the Paladins to 8-5 on the year and 3-1 in Atlantic Sun play, while the loss drops the Titans to 6-5 and 1-1 in A-Sun play.
Shields added two goals to her stat line for a team-high seven points, while Paige Gamble and Devon Horine also each added two. Gamble and Horine tallied a team-high tying four draws, while Maggie Friel made five saves.
Detroit took an early 2-0 lead in the game's first four minutes, but Ashley Trice got the Paladins back in it, assisting on a goal by Abby Shields and scoring one of her own to tie the game at two with 17:31 to go in the half. The teams then traded goals until Furman used back-to-back goals by Devon Horine to grab a 5-4 lead, its first of the game, with 9:17 remaining. Detroit then traded goals with Ashley Trice, who scored her third goal of the half with three seconds to go to give the Paladins the 7-6 halftime lead.
Furman opened up a two-goal lead as Abby Shields netted her second of the day just 1:30 into the half, but Detroit responded with three-straight goals to regain the lead at 9-8 with 23:14 remaining. Furman the fired off six-straight goals over the next 13 minutes to take a 14-9 lead with 10:00 to go. Detroit cut the lead to four with just over 3:00 remaining, then to three at 14-11 with 59 seconds to go. Kaitlyn Wandelt netted her sixth goal of the day for Detroit as the final buzzer sounded, but the Paladins came away with the 14-12 victory.
Furman is back in action on April 22 at Jacksonville in a 7:00 pm matchup.
