Box Score CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – Top-seeded ETSU edged out No. 3 Furman, 4-0, Sunday in the finals of the Southern Conference Championships at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
The Bucs, ranked 55th nationally, swept the doubles matches to take the opening point. David Biosca and Rogerio Ribeiro, ranked 57th nationally, teamed up to defeat seniors Matt Browne and Ben Horst, 6-4, at number one, and Diego Nunez and Robert Herrera downed freshman Alex Steryous and sophomore Cameron Green, 6-2, at flight two. In the third-seeded contest, Sebastian Yllera and Ismael Merino beat sophomore Josh Pistorius and junior Adam Steryous, 6-4.
ETSU won three singles matches in straight sets for the victory. Ribeiro posted a 6-4, 6-4 victory against Green at flight two, and Nunez topped Browne, 6-4, 6-4, at flight three. At flight six, Merino tallied a 6-2, 6-2 advantage over Alex Steryous.
Matches at flights one, four, and five were unfinished, with each contest going into a third set.
Furman concludes the season with a 13-11 overall record and 5-2 regular season conference mark.
