Box Score BIRMINGHAM, ALA. – Samford defeated Furman, 5-2, Sunday at the Samford Tennis Complex in Birmingham, Ala.
The Bulldogs swept the doubles matches for the opening point. Trey Carter and Leonard Gerch topped seniors Ben Horst and Matt Browne, 6-4, at flight one, and Jake Faundez and Eduardo L. Sanchez teamed up for a 6-2 win over sophomore Cameron Green and freshman Alex Steryous at flight two. In the number three match, Justin Ghavami and Fares Kilani beat sophomore Josh Pistorius and junior Adam Steryous, 7-6.
Samford scored in four singles matches, as Kilani defeated Adam Steryous, 6-2, 7-5, at flight one, and Carter posted a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Browne at flight two. In the three-seeded match-up, Gerch tallied a 7-6, 6-1 advantage against Horst, and Sanchez held on for a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 win over Alex Steryous at number five.
Furman scored at flight three and flight six singles. Green beat Ghavami, 6-1, 6-4, at number three, and Pistorius outlasted Faundez, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0, at number six.
The Paladins (8-9, 2-2 SoCon) will play at UNCG on April 9.
