Women's Lacrosse Plays Host to Central Michigan, Detroit in Atlantic Sun Action

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman women's lacrosse team returns to Paladin Stadium this weekend, playing host to Central Michigan and Detroit in two Atlantic Sun matchups. The Paladins and the Chippewas will face-off Friday night at 6:00 p.m., while the Titans and Paladins will meet Sunday at 12:00 p.m. 

Friday's contest will be broadcast on ESPN3, with Bryant Lambert handling play-by-play and Scott Cole providing color analysis. Sunday's game will be streamed on the SoCon Digital Network, with Lambert again handling play-by-play duties and Phil Cox providing color analysis.

Sunday's game versus Detroit has been designated as Furman's #Play4TheCure game. All of the money raised will benefit doctors and researchers that are supported by the National Foundation for Cancer Research. Fans can donate here or in person on Sunday.

The Paladins are coming off a 1-1 start to Atlantic Sun play, rolling past Howard, 20-5, on Friday, before falling to Old Dominion, 9-6, on Sunday. Ashley Trice scored seven goals on eight shots over the weekend to lead the Paladins, while Meg Lingo and Abby Shields each added four. Maggie Friel played the majority of the minutes in goal over the weekend, recording eight saves.

First-year program Central Michigan comes to South Carolina with an 0-1 conference record, including a loss to Detroit. Jocelyne Lemay leads the Chippewas with 17 goals on the year, while Summer Abdalla is also in double-digits with 11 goals. Dominique Hamman has seen most of the action in goal for Central Michigan, playing 426 minutes and making 63 saves.

Detroit is coming off a 2-0 week with wins over Central Michigan and Mount St. Mary's. Freshman Kaitlyn Wandelt was named the Atlantic Sun Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week, marking the third-consecutive week the Titans have garnered a Player of the Week honor from the conference. Wandelt leads the Titans in goals with 26, while Morgan Girardi has turned in 20. Wandelt has also won a team-high 36 draws on the year, whilte Allison McDonough has played a team-high 564:56 minutes in goal and made 66 saves.
