Box Score GREENSBORO, N.C. – Furman held off Greensboro, 5-2, Saturday at the Barber Park Indoor Tennis Facility in Greensboro, N.C.
The Paladins swept the doubles matches for the opening point. Seniors Ben Horst and Matt Browne topped William Albright and Warren Bryan, 7-5, in the top-seeded match, and freshman Alex Steryous and sophomore Cameron Green teamed up for a 6-4 win over Connor Thompson and Daniel Mack at flight two. At flight three, sophomores Josh Pistorius and Stefan Rhodes beat Logan Walker and Ian Melnik, 6-1.
Furman won four singles matches for the victory. Green topped Mack, 6-4, 6-3, at flight two, and Browne downed Gaston Murray, 6-1, 6-4, at number three. At flight four, Horst outlasted Albirght, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, and Pistorius defeated Walker, 6-0, 6-2, at number six.
The Spartans scored at flight one and flight five, as Thompson held off junior Adam Steryous, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6, at number one, and Bryan beat freshman Alex Sterous, 7-6, 6-2, at flight five.
The Paladins (9-9, 3-2 SoCon) will play at Elon Saturday at noon.
