Box Score CLINTON, S.C. – With the score tied at 3-3, sophomore Alex Steryous came back for a 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-2 victory over Alejandro Bejar at flight four singles as Furman outlasted Presbyterian, 4-3, Friday at the Templeton Tennis Center in Clinton, S.C.
The Blue Hose swept the doubles matches to claim the opening point. Joel Roberts and Ben Kelley combined for a 6-2 win over senior Adam Steryous and sophomore Jake Munns at flight one, and Alexander Lykou and Brandon Mills beat Alex Steryous and junior Cameron Green, 6-4, at flight two. In the third-seeded mach-up, Jaime Lopez and Diego Manzanas topped freshmen Trevor Croyder and Clarke Wilson, 6-2.
The Paladins tied the match at 1-1 after Green defeated Manzanas, 6-2, 6-4, at flight two singles, then Presbyterian took a 2-1 lead following Kelley's 6-3, 6-2 victory versus Munns at flight five. Furman knotted the match at 2-all with Adam Steryous' 6-3, 6-4 win over Lykou in the top-seeded contest, then Wilson beat Mills, 7-6, 6-2, at number three to give the Paladins a 3-2 advantage. Roberts slipped past Croyder, 7-5, 7-6(3) at flight six to tie the match at 3-apiece and set up the decisive flight four match-up.
Furman (6-3) will entertain Liberty Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
