Box Score Baltimore, Md. – Lou Yovino and Jonah Moore each netted two goals, but the Paladins couldn't overcome a scoreless third period, falling to Sacred Heart, 9-8, on Saturday on Tierney Field at the campus of US Lacrosse. The loss moves the Paladins to 0-4 on the year, while the win moves Sacred Heart to 1-1.
David Williamson, Finn Barry, Gus Pinsoneault, and Graham Dabbs each tallied one goal for the Paladins, while Stephen Wierzbicki dished out two assists and Luke McDaid had one. Alec Van de Bovenkamp made his second career start and made eight saves, while Hil Blaze was 16-21 on faceoffs and Brandon Bank picked up a team-high ground balls.
Jonah Moore opened the scoring with an unassisted goal with 9:02 remaining in the first. Sacred Heart responded with back-to-back goals, before Lou Yovino knotted the score at two on an unassisted goal with just 18 seconds left in the first.
Sacred Heart pushed the lead back to two with back-to-back goals to open the second period, before Furman used back-to-back man-up goals by David Williamson and Graham Dabbs on assists from Stephen Wierzbicki to tie the game at four with 9:16 left in the second. Sacred Heart took a one-goal lead with 2:30 to go, before Gus Pinsoneault tied the game at five heading into halftime.
The Pioneers scored the only goal of the second period, before Furman tied the game at six on a goal by Yovino, before Sacred Heart rattled off three-straight goals to take a 9-6 lead with just over five minutes remaining. The Paladins used a goal by Jonah Moore and one but Finn Barry to cut the lead to 9-8, but couldn't get any closer, as the Pioneers held on for the victory.
Furman is back in action on Sunday, March 26, traveling to Emmitsburg, Md., for a 12:00 p.m. contest at Mount St. Mary's.
