Box Score GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman blanked Liberty, 7-0, Sunday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C. With the win, the Paladins extend their winning streak to four matches and have won seven of their last eight contests.
The Paladins won two out of three doubles matches to clinch the opening point. Sophomore Alex Steryous and junior Cameron Green teamed up for a 6-1 victory over Vince Salas and Diego Castano in the number one contest, and rookies Trevor Croyder and Clarke Wilson beat Ryker Heller and Eddie Gutierrez, 6-0, at flight three. Senior Adam Steryous and sophomore Jake Munns led Chase Burton and Max Borcuti, 4-2, in an unfinished match at flight one.
Furman swept the singles matches, as Adam Steryous defeated Gutierrez, 7-6, 6-4, at number one and Green came from behind to beat Burton, 5-7, 7-0, 1-0(10-4) at flight two. Wilson held on for a 4-7, 6-2, 1-0(10-4) advantage versus Salas in the number three contest, and Alex Steryous downed Castano, 6-4, 6-2, at flight four. In the flight five match-up, Munns outlasted Heller, 6-1, 6-2, and junior Josh Pistorius scored a 6-3, 6-0 victory versus Borcuti at number six.
Furman (7-3) will entertain USC Upstate Friday at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.
