Women's Lacrosse Dominates Gardner-Webb, 21-5

Boiling Springs, N.C. – A 14-0 first half run proved to be the difference, as Furman dominated Gardner-Webb, 21-5, in the Paladins' final non-conference game of the 2017 season. The win moves Furman to 4-3 on the year, while the loss drops the Runnin' Bulldogs to 0-10.

Thirteen different Paladins registered in the scoring column, led by Paige Gamble with four goals and an assist. Abby Shields continued her strong offensive play, tallying three goals and a game-high four assists for seven points. Freshman Cabell Zakas netted a goal and two assists for three points, while three other Paladins scored two goals each. Gamble won a team-high four draws, and Maggie Friel earned her fourth win of the season in goal. 

Abby Hanscom opened the game with a goal for Gardner-Webb, but the Paladins responded with back-to-back goals by Devon Horine and Gamble to take an early 2-1 lead under two minutes into the game. The Runnin' Bulldogs tied the game at two and again at three, before Furman used a 15-0 run that spanned the rest of the first half and first eight minutes of the second half to take an 18-3 lead that it would never relinquish.

Gardner-Webb ended the run with a goal by Cassidy McDowell, before Taylor Thene scored for the Paladins to push the lead back to 15. Hanscom scored her second goal of the day for GWU with 10:49 to go, before Furman closed out the game with back-to-back goals by Zakas and Britt Douglass to give Furman with 21-5 win.

Furman is back in action on Sunday, March 26, playing host to Coastal Carolina inside Paladin Stadium in the Paladins' ASUN opener.
