GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman freshman Kristlin Gear established a new program record in the mile Saturday, as select members of the Paladin indoor track and field teams competed at the UCS Invitational at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., and the Alex Wilson Invitational at the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of Notre Dame. All seven Paladin competitors established personal bests during Saturday's competition.
Gear posted a time of 4:41.47 to take fifth in the mile at the UCS Invitational, breaking the previous record of 4:45.70, set by Allie Buchalski last season. Sophomore Emma Grace Hurley was eighth in the event with a time of 4:46.20, while sophomore Riley Burr placed 11th at 4:48.83.
Also at the UCS Invitational, freshman Emma Kuntz won the 800m with a time of 2:09.31, and sophomore Gabrielle Jennings finished second with a time of 9:38.81 in the 3,000m.
At Notre Dame, sophomore Mason Coppi placed fourth with a time of 4:07.57 in the mile, and sophomore Jake Ogden finished eighth in the event at 4:08.93.
Furman will compete at the Southern Conference Championships in Lexington, Va., next weekend.
