RALEIGH, N.C. -- Sophomore Claire Cook, graduate student Albert Velikonja, and freshman Annie Miller recorded top-20 finishes to lead the Paladin track and field teams this weekend at the Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility on the campus of N.C. State. The meet was one nation's first premier competitions during the outdoor season.
A native of Austin, Texas, Cook topped all Furman runners for the meet, turning in a 12th-place finish with a personal-best time of 2:07.42 in the women's 800m.
Velikonja, who hails from Montreal, Quebec, posted a time of 13:57.71 to finish 17th in the men's 3,000m, while Miller, a native of Matthews, N.C., placed 20th with a time of 10:25.15 in her 3,000m Steeplechase debut.
Other top finishers for the Paladins included graduate student Bryn Woodall, who posted a time of 3:43.34 to place 26th in the men's 1,500m, and senior Camryn Wennersten finished 31st with a personal-best time of 4:20.65 in the women's 1,500m. Freshman Tessa Walter led the Paladins in 54th place at 16:42.55 in the women's 5,000m.
Furman will compete at the Duke Invite in Durham, N.C., April 10-11
