GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman track and field teams will open the 2018 outdoor season Friday at the Raleigh Relays on the campus of N.C. State in Raleigh, N.C. and will also compete at the Terrier Relays, which will be hosted by Wofford at Spartanburg High on Saturday.
Friday's events in Raleigh will begin with the 5,000m beginning at 9:00 a.m. and conclude with the 10,000m at 10:30 p.m. Events will continue on Saturday at the Raleigh Relays, with the Paladins competing in the women's 800m at 2:00 p.m. and the women's 4x800m at 2:30 p.m.
Saturday's events in Spartanburg will begin at 9:15 a.m. with the 5,000m. The final event, the women's 4x400m, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Nine Furman distance athletes competed in six events at last season's NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships East Preliminaries. Ryan Adams ran in the 1,500m, Troy Reeder competed in the 3,000m Steeplechase, and Mason Coppi qualified in the 5,000m. Three Furman athletes, Tanner Hinkle, Josh Brickell, and Frank Lara, competed in the men's 10,000m.
Reeder captured first team All-American accolades in the 3,000m Steeplechase, while Lara earned an honorable mention All-American citation in the 10,000m, and Adams was named an honorable mention All-American in the 1,500m.
On the women's side, Allie Buchalski and Savannah Carnahan represented the Paladins in the 5,000m, and Gabrielle Jennings competed in the 3,000m Steeplechase. Buchalski garnered first team All-American honors in the 5,000m.
