Box Score Macon, Ga. – Three third quarter goals completed the comeback, as Furman men's lacrosse rallied from a 6-3 deficit to down Mercer, 7-6, on Saturday inside Five Star Stadium in Macon, Ga. The win moves Furman to 3-6 on the year and 3-0 in SoCon play, while the loss drops Mercer to 3-7 and 1-2 in SoCon play.
Jonah Moore led Furman with two goals and three assists for a team-high five points, while David Williamson also added two goals and an assist. Alec Van de Bovenkamp earned his third-straight win in goal, making 11 saves on the afternoon. The Paladins' defense locked down in the second half, allowing just one goal over the game's final 30:00.
The Bears opened up an early 2-0 lead, before Moore tallied his first score of the day to cut the lead to 2-1. Mercer responded with a goal to take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first. Zach Scott scored to cut the lead to 3-2 with 10:26 remaining in the second, but the Bears responded with back-to-back goals to take a 5-2 lead into the halftime locker rooms.
David Williamson netted back-to-back goals in the third to cut the lead to 5-4, but Mercer responded to push the lead to 6-4 after three. The Paladins rallied, however, using a goal from Moore to cut the lead to 6-5 with 10:28 to go, then a goal by Keegan Pearl on an assist from Moore with 9:39 remaining to tie the game. The game-winner came from Lou Yovino on an assist from Williamson to give the Paladins their first lead of the day with 7:51 remaining.
Furman is back in action on Saturday, April 7, hosting High Point at 12:00 p.m. in Paladin Stadium.
