Furman Cruises Past North Greenville, 88-51

Boone Comes off the Bench to Score Career-High 13 Points

Greenville, S.C. – Le'Jzae Davidson and Greyson Boone both scored a game-high 13 points on Wednesday evening as the Furman women's basketball team captured its second straight win with an 88-51 victory over the North Greenville Crusaders at Timmons Arena.

With the win, Furman improves to 2-1 on the season.

Davidson, playing in only 14 minutes of action, helped pace the Paladins offensively scoring 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Boone came off the bench to score a career-best 13 points and set new career marks on 4-of-6 shooting and 3-of-4 from 3-point range. Taylor Petty contributed 12 points while Lindsey Taylor had a career-high 10 on 5-of-9 shooting. Sutton West pulled down a team-leading five rebounds. Tyah Hunter dished out a team-best five assists while adding two steals.

Karen Donehew led North Greenville with 13 points and was joined in double-figures by Savannah Hughes (12) and Damiya Montgomery (10). Hughes also led the team with two assists. Defensively, Natalie Averett compiled six rebounds.

Furman limited the Crusaders to just 4-of-26 shooting in the first half including two field goals each in both quarters.

The Paladins built a 20-7 lead through the first quarter. North Greenville jumped out to an early 5-2 lead but would score only two points, both on free throws, over the final 7:58. During that stretch, Furman scored 16 straight points and led 18-5 with 40 seconds left on Davidson's 3-pointer. Davidson gave the Paladins a 13-point advantage following her layup with four seconds remaining.

Furman continued its solid defending in the second quarter as North Greenville finished 2-of-15 from the field while being outscored 22-7. The Paladins began the quarter with a 17-2 run, covering 6:57, and held a 37-9 advantage at the 3:03 mark. After the Crusaders posted five consecutive points, Furman closed out the half scoring the final five. Boone's 3-pointer and a layup by Maddie Griffon sent the Paladins into halftime leading 42-14.

Furman would shoot over 50 percent from the field in the second half highlighted by an 11-of-16 (68.8 percent) mark in the fourth quarter.

The Paladins increased their lead out to 31 points to start the third quarter when Davidson capped a 7-4 run with her layup, making the score 49-18 with 8:07 to go. North Greenville managed to cut its deficit down to 29 points three times with the last coming at just under the five-minute mark, 55-26. A 3-pointer by Boone the following possession put Furman back ahead by 32 points. Another triple from Boone gave the Paladins a 63-28 lead with 3:52 left. Her two free throws with 45 seconds remaining gave Furman a 65-32 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

The Paladins offense posted their best numbers of the game in the fourth quarter, missing only five field goals in 16 attempts. Furman led by at least 30 points the entire quarter and took its largest lead of the game, 41 points, with 1:53 to go on a jumper from Jarya Outten. Boone's final basket of the evening, a layup, put the Paladins in front 88-48. A 3-pointer by the Crusaders with 43 seconds remaining put the final score at 88-51.

Furman had 14 players log playing time in the contest with each recording at least two points and one rebound.

The Paladins, for the second straight game, tallied a field goal percentage of 50 percent or greater. Furman concluded the game shooting 52.4 percent (33-of-63) from the field and was 8-of-19 (42.1 percent) behind the 3-point line.

The Paladins also held a 38-18 advantage in points in the paint, 10-8 in points off turnovers, 22-8 in second chance points and 48-13 in bench points.

Furman concludes its three-game homestand on Monday, November 18 when it hosts Hampton at 7 p.m.
