Noah Gurley scored 16 points to pace four Paladins in double figures as Furman downed Columbia International, 90-45, in non-conference men's basketball action Friday night at Timmons Arena.
The Paladins (5-1) used a 31-3 first half run to forge a 55-23 halftime advantage and led by as many as 48 points en route to their 21
st victory in their last 24 regular season non-conference contests. The victory also marked Furman's 54
th triumph in its last 65 games at Timmons Arena.
Gurley, who finished 6-of-7 from the floor, scored 10 of his game-high 16 points in the first half and fellow sophomore
Mike Bothwell scored all 12 of his points in the opening period. Senior
Jordan Lyons netted 14 points and junior
Alex Hunter added 12 on 5-of-8 shooting.
Furman shot 64.4% from the field, which represented the Paladins best shooting night since hitting 70% of their shots in a rout of Virginia Intermont on December 29, 2004. The Paladins outscored the Rams in the paint 54-26 and tallied 27 points off 19 CIU turnovers.
The Rams shot just 33.9%, including 6-for-23 from three-point range. Tajae Anderson paced CIU with 10 points.
Furman continues play in the Battle 4 Atlantis when it travels to face the Elon Phoenix on Tuesday, November 26, at 7 p.m. The following day Furman will take on UT Arlington in a 3 p.m. tilt in Elon, N.C.
