KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Senior Keller Harper (E) shot an even 72 to tie for 16th to lead the Furman (+17) men's golf team Sunday after day one of the Kiawah Classic at the par 72, 6,911 yard Turtle Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island, S.C.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Harper birdied No. 2 and turned at two-over before eagling the par-5 No. 10. He added back to back birdies on No. 15 and No. 16 to finish the round eight strokes back of Auburn's Jovan Rebula, who fired an opening-round 64 to take a two-stroke lead after Sunday's play.Â
Junior Jack Crosby (+5) carded a 77 with birdies on No. 13 and No. 16 to tie for 74th, and senior Matt Lehman (+6) and freshman Ross Funderburke (+6) are tied for 87th after each tallied a 78 on Sunday. Funderburke recorded a team-high five birdies with consecutive birdies on No. 9 and No. 10. Freshman Reynolds Lambert (+7) posted a 79 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 17 to tie for 96th.Â
Sophomore Phil Jones, who is playing as an individual, recorded an 81 with birdies on No. 3 and No. 11 to tie for 105th.Â
No. 24 Auburn (-14) holds a nine-stroke lead over Augusta (-5), while High Point (E) is in third place after one round of play. College of Charleston (+2) ranks fourth, followed by Gardner-Webb (+3) in fifth. Â
