KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. -- Keller Harper (+2) fired a final-round 71 to finish in a tie for 34th and lead the Furman (+40) men's golf team Tuesday at the Kiawah Classic at the par 72, 6,911 yard Turtle Point Golf Course on Kiawah Island, S.C.
A senior from Atlanta, Ga., Harper teed off on No. 13 in the shotgun round and birdied his first hole. He turned at even par then added consecutive birdies on No. 5 and No. 6 and an additional birdie on his last hole, No. 12. Â
Senior Matt Lehman (+13) and freshman Ross Funderburke (+13) tied for 89th. Lehman carded a 75 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 17, and Funderburke posted a 76 with three birdies in the final round. Junior Jack Crosby (+14) added a 76 with three birdies on Tuesday to tie for 92nd, and freshman Reynolds Lambert (+19) recorded an 81 with three birdies, tying for 101st.
Sophomore Phil Jones (+17), who played as an individual, matched Harper with a 71 on Tuesday. Jones tallied a team-high five birdies, including back to back birdies on No. 15 and No. 16, to tie for 98th.
Jovan Rebula (-13) of Auburn won individual medalist honors by three strokes with rounds of 64-66-73=203.
No. 24 Auburn (-31) won the tournament by 15 strokes over second-place College of Charleston (-16). Augusta (-10) was third, followed by Jacksonville State (-2) in fourth. No. 47 Memphis (+1) rounded out the top five. The Paladins concluded the tournament in 20th place. Â
Furman will open the 2020 spring season at the Wexford Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C., Feb. 24-25.Â
