GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman placekicker Grayson Atkins has been named Associated Press FCS second team All-American, it was announced today.

The selection follows his second team AP All-America pick in 2018.

A junior, Atkins converted 13-of-15 field goal attempts and 48-of-50 PATs this fall to finish with 87 points.  He converted all six field goal attempts under 40 yards and went 7-for-9 from 40+ yards, including a career long 59-yard try in FCS first round playoff action against Austin Peay.

The Inman, S.C., product entered the season riding a streak of 11 consecutive made field goals and proceeded to extend it to a Furman and Southern Conference record 18 straight — his final make coming from a school record tying 55 yards in a 28-7 win over Western Carolina on Oct. 26.

Atkins' streak of 18 straight made field goals came from an average distance of 39.2 yards and featured perfect 10-for-10 work from 40+ yards, including 5-for-5 from 50+ yards.

A consensus first team All-SoCon selection for a second straight year, he has converted 33-of-40 field goals in three seasons at Furman and accounted for 241 points, ranking fifth all-time in kick scoring.  His career 82.5 field goal percentage is the best in program history.

Atkins also landed second team All-SoCon honors as punter in 2019 after averaging 43.5 yards per punt and  recorded 39 touchbacks on 77 kickoffs.

He is the SoCon's best all-around specialist, evident in the five league special teams player of the week honors he was accorded in 2019.

Atkins' work helped key Furman to an 8-5 season that netted the Paladins an FCS playoff berth.
