GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman men's golf team will participate in the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate Monday and Tuesday at the par 70, 6,617 yard Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken, S.C.
The Paladins will be joined in the 17-team field by host USC Aiken, which ranks 31st nationally in Division II, Akron, Army, Charleston Southern, No. 13 Clemson, Memphis, Presbyterian, Rhode Island, 37th-ranked South Carolina, Temple, UAB, VCU, Virginia, William & Mary, Winthrop, and Wofford.
The 54-hole event features two rounds on Monday beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Tuesday's final round will also begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Furman will play in a group with Wofford and Presbyterian on Monday.
The Paladin lineup includes seniors Connor Bruns, juniors Keller Harper and Stephen Reynolds, sophomore Jack Crosby, and freshman Phil Jones.
Harper, the 2018 SoCon Men's Golf Player of the Year, leads the Paladins with a 71.0 stroke average over 17 rounds this season. He opened the fall season by winning individual medalist honors at the River Run Collegiate, marking the first individual win of his collegiate career and the first for the Paladins since 2014. Bruns, who joined Harper on the All-SoCon Team in 2018, and Crosby are tied for second on the Paladin team with a 72.7 stroke average.
"We're always excited about the chance to go to Aiken and play a course with as much history as Palmetto Golf Club," said first-year Furman head coach Matt Davidson, who was inducted into the Furman Athletics Hall of Fame last fall. "It is a very strong field this year with South Carolina, Clemson, and Virginia all competing. With four runner up finishes already this season, we have a lot of confidence, and we'll have a great game plan, so hopefully we'll execute and get in the mix again."
Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome. Live tournament scoring will also be available via http://www.golfstat.com.
