Second Half Goals Help UNCW Edge Furman In Opener, 2-1

Paladins Face CofC On Sunday At 1:30

Greenville, S.C. -- UNCW netted a pair of second half goals to overcome a 1-0 halftime deficit and down Furman, 2-1, in the women's soccer regular season opener for both teams at the College of Charleston Under Armour Invitational Friday afternoon at Patriots Point Athletics Complex.

The Seahawks' Emily Moxley broke a 1-1 tie in the 84th minute with the eventual match-winning score. After trailing 1-0 at the break, UNCW knotted the match in the 55th minute. Following a Seahawk corner kick, Baley Edwards headed a pass across the face of goal and Ashley Johnson headed in her shot from close range.

Furman had grabbed the early lead on its first shot of the season at the 15:29 mark. Caitlyn Reilly served a pass into the box and Jasmine Greene set up Isabella Gutierrez for the go-ahead score.

UNCW (1-0) did not allow another shot on goal the rest of the way and managed a 10-3 edge in total shots. Sydney Schneider earned the win in goal for the Seahawks, while Kellsey Weaver made to stops in goal for Furman (0-1).

The Paladins return to action on Sunday when they face the host Cougars on the final day of the CofC Under Armour Invitational. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m.
