Reilly Powers Paladins To First Win Of 2019, 2-1

Furman Travels To Campbell On Thursday

Greenville, S.C. – Senior Caitlyn Reilly netted a pair of goals to rally Furman women's soccer past College of Charleston, 2-1, in the finale of the CofC Under Armour Invitational Sunday afternoon at Patriots Point Athletics Complex in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

After the Paladins (1-1-0) saw an early lead slip away in Friday's season-opening loss to UNCW, Furman flipped the script on Sunday by answering CofC's early goal with two of its own to secure its first victory of 2019.

"When we gave up the early goal, I was interested to see how we reacted and our body language, but I was very pleased with our response," said Paladin head coach Andrew Burr. "Caitlyn scored two nice goals and we battled to get a win against a talented Charleston team."

Trailing 1-0 in the final moments of the first half, Reilly took a pass from Isabell Gutierrez a lined a shot past CofC keeper Meredith Holton from outside the box at the 43:25 mark to even the match at 1-1. The Charleston, S.C., native and preseason All-Southern Conference selection put the Paladins in front with her second goal of the afternoon at the 74:38 mark. Freshman Jasmine Greene sent a low cross into the box that Riley collected near the top of the six-yard box and poked past Holton for the final 2-1 margin.

Goalkeeper Kellsey Weaver earned the victory with three saves, including a pair of stops in the first half. Holton finished with two saves for the Cougars.

CofC (1-1-0) scored its lone goal of the match in the 11th minute when Talia Colchico found the back of the net from close range following a Cougar corner kick. The Cougars managed a 14-10 edge in total shots with both teams totaling four shots on target.

With the victory, Furman improved to 17-2-5 all-time against the Cougars.

Reilly joined Jordan Evens and Erin O'Hearn on the all-tournament team, which was announced following Sunday's match.

The Paladins return to action on Thursday with a 6 p.m. kickoff versus Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C., before entertaining Elon in the home opener at Stone Soccer Stadium on Sunday, September 1, at 5 p.m.
