SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Furman cross country teams won their fourth-consecutive Eye Opener Invitational titles Saturday at the Milliken Research Center in Spartanburg, S.C.  Both Paladin teams scored a perfect 15 points for the victories.

The Paladin squad took the top ten spots in the women's 5K.  Senior Gabbi Jennings, who won the Charlotte Opener two weeks ago, posted her second-straight individual victory, taking first with a time of 17:10.7.  Junior Krissy Gear was second with a time of 17:34.6, followed by senior Emma Grace Hurley in third at 17:47.4.  Rookie Lauren Peterson scored a top-five finish, taking fourth at 18:09.5, and senior Grace Dwyer rounded out the Paladin slate of scorers in fifth at 18:11.1

Junior Emma Kuntz finished sixth with a time of 18:17.0, followed by junior Emily Lane in seventh at 18:22.1.  Freshman Abigail Robertson turned in an eighth place finish with a time of 18:29.8, and senior Jennifer Stephenson notched a ninth-place finish at 18:34.4.  Freshman Nicole Matysik was tenth with a time of 18:40.0.

On the men's side, senior Ryan Adams also scored his second-straight individual victory.  Adams, who took first at the Charlotte Opener on August 30, turned in a time of 24:53.8 to pace the Paladins on the 8K course.  The Paladins grabbed the top nine spots, as junior Daniel Bernal finished second with a time of 24:54.6, followed by senior Mason Coppi in third at 25:01.5.  Senior Jake Ogden tallied a fourth-place finish with a time of 25:27.7, and sophomore Cameron Ponder finished the Paladin scoring in fifth at 25:34.1.

Rookie David Ahlmeyer recorded a sixth-place finish at 25:43.0, and junior Trenton Mandato finished seventh at 25:46.5.  Freshmen Adam Beucler and Ares Reading took eight and ninth places, respectively, with times of 25:55.2 and 26:15.5.  Freshman James LaLonde notched an 11th place finish with a time of 26:42.1, followed by sophomore Noah Dolhare in 12th with a time of 26:48.4.  Senior Madison Daniel finished 14th at 26:53.8, while freshman Benjamin Seeber was 16th at 27:23.6.  Freshman Nick Epstein posted a time of 27:30.2 for 17th place, and rookie Justin Hager came in 28th at 28:33.2.

Furman will compete at the Queen City Invitational on Sept. 27 and the Oregon Cross Country Invitational on Sept. 28.
