No. 18 Furman In Second Place After Opening Day Of Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Freshman Anna Morgan (E) carded an even 72 to tie for 11th as the Furman women's golf team (+4) concluded round one in second place Friday at the 46th Annual Lady Paladin Invitational at the par-72, 6,278-yard Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Morgan notched three birdies on the front nine to turn at one-under then added an additional birdie on No. 15.  She concluded the round five strokes back of Wake Forest's Siyun Liu (-5) who led the field with a 67 on Friday.

Furman senior Natalie Srinivasan (+1) and freshman Caroline Wrigley (+1) are tied for 15th after each recorded a 73 in the opening round.  Srinivasan birdied No. 6 and turned at 2-over, then added birdies on No. 13 and No. 17, while Wrigley tallied a birdie on No. 5 then posted birdies on two of her last three holes. 

Juniors Carly Burkhardt (+2), Madison Moosa (+2), and Caitlin Cotterill (+2) are tied for 23rd heading into Saturday's second round after each recorded a 74 in Friday's opening round.  Burkhardt scored birdies on No. 3 and No. 13, while Moosa tallied four birdies, including consecutive birdies on her last two holes.  Cotterill, who is playing as an individual, also recorded four birdies, with back to back birdies on No. 4 and No. 5.  

Furman had three additional individuals in the field.  Sophomore Kyra Cox (+8) is tied for 59th after shooting an 80 with birdies on No. 4 and No. 10, and senior Marra Burton (+9) posted an 81 to tie for 70th.  Sophomore Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+11) is tied for 81st after scoring an 83 with a birdie on No. 2.

Top-ranked Wake Forest (-2) led the field with a 286 on Friday.  The Paladins (+4) are six strokes back in second place, and North Florida (+5) and South Florida (+5) are tied for third, just one stroke behind Furman.  Kansas (+6) sits in fifth place heading into Saturday's second round.  

The second round of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, with final round play slated for Sunday at 9 a.m.  Furman will tee off of No. 1 beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and will play in a group with Wake Forest and North Florida.  Admission to the tournament is free and fans are welcome.  Results and live tournament scoring are available via www.FurmanPaladins.com and www.golfstat.com.
