Emery May netted goals to lead Furman to a 3-0 victory over Winthrop in non-conference men's soccer action on Sunday night as Paladin head coach
Doug Allison claimed his 300
th career victory.
"I guess 300 wins means that I've been around a long time," said Allison, who boasts a 300-139-57 career mark in 25 seasons at the helm of the Paladin program. "I'm thankful to Furman for giving me the opportunity to coach here for 25 years and so thankful to all the assistant coaches and players that have been a part of the wins. The players and coaches I've worked with have been what has made this so special."
Allison's 300 wins and .662 winning percentage both rank in the top 20 among active Division I head coaches. He also ranks as the winningest coach in Southern Conference history.
Furman (2-1-1) got on the board first in the 37
th minute as
Conor Sloan fed a pass to Joash, who laced a 22-yard shot inside the near right post at the 36:48 mark. Less than 10 minutes into the second half, McLagan doubled the margin with his fifth goal of the season as he curled a free kick past the Winthrop goalkeeper at 54:20.
Emery May got on the board for the first time in 2019 at the 69:55 mark, taking a pass from
Alfredo Diaz-Santillan and sliding a shot inside the near post from the right side of the box.
Furman posted a 21-4 margin in total shots and 9-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Max Fisher earned his first shutout of the season in goal for the Paladins, while Aidan McCormick stopped six shots for the Eagles (1-3-0).
Furman opens its home schedule on Wednesday, September 11, when it hosts UNC Asheville for the annual Gray Griffin Memorial Game on Seagraves Field at Stone Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and tickets are available for $5 at FurmanPaladins.com.
