GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's women's basketball squad is set to open its 2020-21 basketball season on Wednesday at Clemson, facing the Tigers in a 2:00 p.m. contest at Littlejohn Coliseum.
The game will be televised over the ACC Network Extra. Fans can also follow the contest thru live stats at FurmanPaladins.com and receive updates via twitter @FurmanWBB.
Set to begin her 11th season as head coach at her alma mater,
Jackie Carson welcomes the return of two starters off last year's squad that posted a 19-12 record and 8-6 mark in Southern Conference play. Â The Paladins' top returnees include redshirt senior small forward
Tierra Hodges (11.9 ppg, 10.4 rpg) and senior forward
Celena Taborn (8.7 ppg, 3.8 rpg).
Hodges, a Covington, Ga., product who is coming off a junior campaign that saw her garner first team All-SoCon honors, was recently named to the Becky Harmon Mid-Major Player of the Year Preseason Watch list. Â Taborn, meanwhile, became the 24th player in program history to score 1,000 points (1,015), when she topped the mark late last year. Â The Sydney, Ohio, native also ranks first in Furman's record books in career field goal percentage (.671).
Furman's biggest challenge this year is replacing the offense provided by consensus All-SoCon guard
Le'Jzae Davidson (14.2 ppg), who graduated as the program's third all-time leading scorer (1,753 pts.) and with a host of 3-point shooting standards, including career 3PFGM (324) and 3PFGA (1,048).
Nine freshman dot the Paladins' roster, and among the newcomers expected to deliver significant playing time are point guard
Paraskevi Koilia, a member of Greece's National Team, and all-state guard
Tate Walters, a member of four 5A state championship teams at Buford (Ga.) High School.
Furman is scheduled to open its home season on Dec. 1 versus Presbyterian.
