Athens, Ga. – Jenna Staiti scored a team-high 15 points, while Maya Caldwell contributed 10, to lead the Georgia Lady Bulldogs to a 69-43 victory over the Furman women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon inside Stegeman Coliseum.
Furman drops to 2-5 overall while Georgia improves to 7-0 on the season.
Tierra Hodges recorded her fourth double-double of the season to lead the Paladins on a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Tate Walters and
Celena Taborn both had six points.
Paraskevi Koilia dished out six assists while setting new career-highs with eight rebounds and three steals.
Along with the 15 points by Staiti and 10 from Caldwell, Que Morrison recorded nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Morrison also led the Lady Bulldogs with five assists and three steals.
Georgia jumped out to a 23-10 lead in the first quarter and built its advantage out to 17 points, 33-16, with 4:58 remaining in the second period. Furman closed out the half on a 10-2 run, highlighted by 3-pointers from
Aaliyah Irizarry-Perez and
Evie DePetro, to trail 35-26 at halftime.
The Paladins continued their run into the second half, scoring eight of the first 11 points to begin the third quarter. A pair of free throws by Hodges with 4:49 left cut Furman's deficit to 38-34. The Lady Bulldogs scored the final eight points of the quarter to lead 46-34. Georgia outscored the Paladins 23-9 in the fourth quarter to secure the 69-43 victory.
Furman concluded the game shooting 28.6 percent (16-of-56) from the field while the Lady Bulldogs finished at 46.6 percent (27-of-58) overall. Georgia also held a 40-37 advantage in rebounding.
The Paladins return to action on Sunday, January 3 when they host Newberry at 2 p.m.
