Furman Rolls Past College Of Charleston, 81-57

The Paladins Improve To 4-0

Charleston, S.C. – Mike Bothwell poured in a season-high 26 points and Jalen Slawson, a native of Summerville, S.C., added 16 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and three blocked shots to power Furman to an 81-57 victory over the College of Charleston Saturday afternoon at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C.

Bothwell, a native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, drained all five of his three-point attempts in the first half and scored 17 points in the opening 20 minutes as Furman raced out to a 47-23 lead at intermission. The Paladins shot 56.7% from the field and connected on 11-of-18 three-point tries in the first half to take control of the game.

Furman (4-0) finished the game shooting 51.7% from the floor and 47.1% from behind the arc. The Paladins' 16 three-point baskets tied for the second most in school history versus an NCAA Division I opponent. Charleston shot just 36.5% and was limited to a 5-for-23 effort from three-point range.

Furman turned 15 Cougar turnovers into 29 points and extended its lead to as many as 34 points in the second half. The 24-point margin marked the largest in a Furman victory over College of Charleston (1-2) since a 114-67 triumph in Charleston during the 1952-53 season.

Bothwell converted on 10-of-14 shots for the game, including 6-of-8 behind the arc, to lead the Paladins in scoring, while Noah Gurley hit four triples to net a season-high 18 points. Slawson, who finished just one assist shy of a triple-double, went 5-for-6 from the field and at the foul line.

Zep Jasper paced the Cougars with 12 points and Dontavius King added 11.
