Furman Entertains Fresno State on Saturday Afternoon

Paladins-Bulldogs to Meet for Third Time in Program History

Greenville, S.C. – The Furman women's lacrosse team remains at home on Saturday afternoon to host the Fresno State Bulldogs at 12 p.m. from Paladin Stadium.

The Paladins (1-0) opened their season on February 7 with a 14-11 victory over East Carolina at Paladin Stadium. Furman concluded the game with 25 shots and forced East Carolina into 19 turnovers. The Paladins also compiled 12 ground balls and 12 draw controls.

Grace Pollak led Furman with a game-high five goals, including three on free position attempts, while Hannah Demis also had five points on one goal and a game-high four assists. Leah Nonnenmann and Sydney Catts both collected two goals apiece. Nonnenmann and Lauren Farber both added two assists. Hannah Dintino, Lindsey Kelly and Meagan Beal each scored one goal. Making her first collegiate start, Meghan Deehan earned the win in goal and finished with six saves.

Pollak and Deehan were both recognized by the SoCon on Tuesday as Pollak was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Deehan the Defensive Player of the Week.

Fresno State begins its season on Saturday after finishing last year with a 7-7 overall record and 0-2 mark in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.

The Bulldogs return the 2019 MPSF Rookie of the Year in Sydney Skalstad as well as six All-Conference selections in Skalstad, Tiffiny Wallace, Kayla Galet, Olivia Mannon, Abbigayle Roberts and Laurel Maunder. Wallace led the team in 2019 with 47 points on 30 goals and 17 assists. In goal, Maunder grabbed 181 saves. Fresno State is under the direction of first-year interim head coach Kara Concheck.

The Paladins and Bulldogs are meeting for the third time in program history on Saturday with the all-time series tied at 1-1. Fresno State defeated Furman in the last meeting, 7-4, on March 7, 2016 in Fresno, Calif.

The Paladins hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday, February 19 traveling to Lynchburg, Va. to face Liberty at 1 p.m.
