Furman Drops 19-8 Road Decision at Johns Hopkins

Nonnenmann Ties Career-High with Four Goals

Baltimore, Md. – Leah Nonnenmann tied her career-high of four goals on Saturday afternoon as the Furman women's lacrosse team fell 19-8 on the road to the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays at Homewood Field.

Furman drops to 2-3 on the season while Johns Hopkins improves to 3-2 overall.

Nonnenmann led the Paladins offensively with four points on her four goals while Grace Pollak contributed three points on two goals and one assist. Kyra LaMotte contributed two goals and Hannah Demis two assists. Avery Whitehead matched her career-best of four ground balls. Pollak and Morgan Franklin each had three draws. Franklin, Lauren Farber and Rachel Sindler all caused one turnover. In goal, Meghan Deehan made six saves.

Aurora Cordingley compiled a game-high six points on two goals and four assists to lead the Blue Jays on offense. Maggie Schneiderei, Claire Mills, Keegan Barger, Mackenzie Heldber and Maeve Barker all scored two goals. Georgia Esmond dished out three assists while Schneiderei added two. Kathleen Garvey earned the win in goal with two saves and Kaitlyn Pham grabbed one.

Johns Hopkins opened the game on a 4-1 run during the first 9:09 with LaMotte scoring Furman's first goal at the 21:43 mark. LaMotte added her second goal of the contest with 18:31 remaining to trim the Paladins' deficit down to 4-2. The Blue Jays would then go on a 9-0 run, covering a stretch of 8:29, to take a 13-2 lead with 7:01 to go. Pollak recorded the final goal of the half with 5:22 remaining as Johns Hopkins led 13-3 at intermission.

The Blue Jays recorded the first two goals of the second half to hold a 15-3 advantage. Nonnenmann and Pollak outscored Johns Hopkins 3-1 over the next 8:08 as Furman trailed 16-6 with 14:25 left after Nonnenmann's second goal of the half. The Blue Jays followed by scoring three of the next four goals to go in front 19-7 with 3:02 remaining. Nonnenmann scored the last two goals of the game for the Paladins. Her final goal with 16 seconds to go put the final score at 19-8.

Furman concluded the game with 15 shots, 11 ground balls and 10 draw controls. The Paladins forced Johns Hopkins into 13 turnovers and held a 6-3 advantage in saves.

Furman is back at Paladin Stadium on Saturday, March 7 to host Lehigh at 12 p.m.
