Lehigh Tops Furman, 10-6, in Women’s Lacrosse Action

Demis Leads Paladins with Four Points, Pollak Adds Hat Trick

Greenville, S.C. – Grace Pollak scored a hat trick, while Hannah Demis dished out three assists, as the Furman women's lacrosse team dropped a 10-6 decision to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Paladin Stadium.

Furman drops to 2-4 on the season while Lehigh improves to 5-2 overall.

Demis led the Paladins offensively with four points on three assists and one goal while Pollak compiled a hat trick with three goals. Kyra LaMotte and Meagan Beal both had one goal. LaMotte also led the team with four draws. Regan Lingo set a new career-high with three ground balls and caused two turnovers along with Kaylee Coleman, Rachel Sindler and Morgan Franklin. Meghan Deehan grabbed a career-high 13 saves in goal.

With her three goals on Saturday, Pollak becomes just the third player in program history to score 100 career goals. She joins Abby Shields (2016-19) and Ashley Trice (2015-17) to reach the century mark in goals scored for a career.

Katia Carnevale scored a game-high four goals for the Mountain Hawks while Gabby Schneider also had four points on three goals and one assist. Sondra Dickey won five draws and goalie Samantha Sagi recorded four ground balls and 12 saves.

Pollak got Furman on the board first at the 27:48 mark of the first half scoring off the assist from Demis. After Lehigh tied the score just over a minute later, LaMotte put the Paladins in front, 2-1, with 25:59 remaining. The Mountain Hawks scored the final two goals of the half, both from Schneider, and held a 3-2 lead at intermission. Schneider's second goal of the game put Lehigh in front by one with 3:16 left before halftime.

Beal and Pollak teamed up to give Furman a 4-3 lead to start the second half, scoring back-to-back goals over the course of 4:28. The Mountain Hawks followed with a 3-0 run over the next 11:17 and went back in front, 6-4, with 14:14 to go. The teams then traded a pair of goals to put the score at 7-5 with 8:57 remaining. Demis scored the Paladins' goal at the 10:15 mark. Pollak completed her hat trick with 3:54 left to get Furman to within one at 7-6. Lehigh closed out the game on a 3-0 run after that to make the final score 10-6.

The Paladins attempted a total of 26 shots in the contest along with the Mountain Hawks. Furman held a 15-14 advantage in ground balls and 13-12 in saves. The Paladins also won seven draws and forced Lehigh into 17 turnovers.
