Greenville, S.C. – The Furman women's lacrosse team begins its 2020 season on Friday evening when it hosts the East Carolina Pirates at 6 p.m. from Paladin Stadium.

The Paladins begin their sixth season as a program, all under the direction of head coach Rachel Whitten, after finishing last year with an 11-8 overall record and went 4-1 in the SoCon, earning a share of the Regular Season Championship.

Furman was tabbed to finish in second place this season in the SoCon by the league's head coaches while Hannah Demis, Grace Pollak, Sydney Catts, Morgan Franklin and Avery Whitehead were all selected Preseason All-Conference.

A total of eight starters return for the Paladins in 2020 in Pollak, Demis, Catts, Whitehead, Franklin, Ellie Roser, Rachel Sindler and Regan Lingo. Demis ranked second on the team last season with 67 points (30 goals, 37 assists) while Pollak was third with 65 points (50 goals, 15 assists).

Pollak and Franklin were both named First Team All-SoCon last year while Whitehead earned a spot on the Second Team. Lauren Farber was also voted to the SoCon All-Freshman Team.

East Carolina finished last season with a 5-12 overall record and 0-5 in the American Athletic Conference. The Pirates return the team's top 12 scorers, including Preseason All-AAC selection Ally Stanton. East Carolina is under the direction of third-year head coach Amanda Moore.

The Paladins and Pirates are meeting for the first time in program history on Friday.

Furman remains at home next Saturday, February 15 to host Fresno State at 12 p.m.
