GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman swept Emmanuel, 7-0, Sunday at the Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.
The Paladins claimed victories in all three doubles matches to win the first point. Senior Danni Vines and sophomore Madison Dillon blanked Maria Raich Solans and Zyanya Rogel Valenci, 6-0, at flight one, and juniors Carol Elizabeth Kerman and Georgie Walker defeated Victoria Salva and M. Weng, 6-2, at number two. At flight three, freshman Maggie Pate and sophomore Mary Hunter Hyche notched a 6-1 advantage over Lauren Castillon and Julia Ramos.
In singles, Furman won all six matches in straight sets. Sophomore Julia Adams beat Raich Colans, 6-1, 6-2, in the number one contest, and junior MaryAnn Rompf blew past Weng, 6-0, 6-1, at flight two. Pate blanked Rogel Valenci, 6-0, 6-0, at number three, and Vines topped Marta Rozados Barrie, 6-1, 6-1, in the flight four match up. At flight five, Hyche swept Silva, 6-0, 6-0, and Kerman completed the victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Ramos at number six.
"It has been a very busy start to the year for our team, and I am pleased with how much this group is growing," said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen. "We have a lot of areas that we want to work on, but we are doing a lot of great things, and this weekend was another strong performance for us."
Furman (8-3) will travel to Lynchburg, Va., to take on Liberty and VCU February 22-23.
