DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Furman downed Davidson, 5-2, Saturday in the season opener for both teams at the Davidson Tennis Courts in Davidson, N.C.

The Paladins swept the doubles matches to claim the opening point.  Senior Jake Bhangdia and junior James Roelofse topped Yash Parikh and William Clark, 7-5, at flight one, and seniors Ivan Mitric and Drew Singerman held off Maxwell Kachkarov and Alejandro Solares, 7-6, in the number two contest.  At flight three, senior Henrik Atlevi and rookie Emil Westling defeated Camden Mazzoni and Douglas Macintosh, 6-3.

Furman took the first two singles points, as Mitric beat Parikh, 6-4, 6-4, in the top-seeded match up, and Atlevi came from behind for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Brooks Green at number three.  Sam Kavarna put the Wildcats on the board with a win at flight two, defeating Bhangdia, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, and Davidson cut the deficit to 3-2 when Kachkarov slipped past Singerman, 7-5, 7-6(5), at number four.  Westling clinched the match for the Paladins with a 7-6(5), 7-6(5) advantage over Clark at number five, then Roelofse extended the margin to 5-2 when he came from behind for a 6-7(5), 6-2, 1-0(10-8) win over Solares at flight six. 

Furman (1-0) will entertain Gardner-Webb Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Mickel Tennis Center.  No spectators are allowed, but live stats will be available on http://www.furmanpaladins.com.
