GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Furman women's tennis team will open a three-match road swing Saturday at VCU. The match is scheduled for noon at the Thalhimer Tennis Center in Richmond, Va. No spectators will be allowed at the event.
Furman (0-3) fell to Mississippi State, 6-1, on Sunday. Senior Katarina Kozarov, who ranks 15th nationally, scored at flight one singles for the Paladins, while the Furman doubles team of Kozarov and junior Julia Adams, ranked 27th nationally, won at flight one doubles.
VCU enters the match at 1-1 after losing to No. 14 Virginia, 7-0, on Thursday. Last weekend, the Rams defeated Elon, 5-2, to open the season.
The Paladins defeated the Rams, 6-1, last season in Lynchburg, Va., to tie the series at 1-apiece.
On Sunday, the Paladins will square off against tenth-ranked Duke at 11 a.m. at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C. No spectators will be allowed, but live stats will be available at http://www.furmanpaladins.com.
Duke is 2-1 and is tied for tenth in the most recent ITA team rankings. The Blue Devils defeated No. 22 Michigan, 4-1, then lost to 12th-ranked Georgia Tech, 4-3, last weekend at the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Atlanta.
The Blue Devils lead the overall series, 8-1, after defeating the Paladins, 4-0, in the opening round of the 2018 NCAA Championships in Durham.
