CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Junior Anna Morgan (-2) tied for 17th to lead the Furman women's golf team Saturday in day two of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the par 72, 6,393 yard UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Morgan, who hails from Spartanburg, S.C., birdied No. 3 and turned at even par then birdied No. 14 and No. 16 to finish the day with a 1-under 71. She sits nine strokes back of Rachel Kuehn of Wake Forest (-11), who holds a 3-stroke lead with a two-day total of 70-63=133.
Senior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+1) is tied for 33rd after carding a 75 with three birdies on Saturday, while sophomore Sophia Burnett (+3) also shot a 75 with three birdies to tie for 53rd heading into Sunday's final round. Â
Freshman Savannah Hylton (+7) tallied a 74 with three birdies, tying for 75th, and senior Kyra Cox (+9) finished the day with a 75 to tie for 81st after two rounds.
Wake Forest (-16) surged into the lead on Saturday, while Virginia (-12) fell to second. Clemson (-11) is one stroke back in third, followed by Michigan (-6) in fourth. Three teams, Vanderbilt (-3), Duke (-3), and Alabama (-3) are tied for fifth. The Paladins (+9) are in 12th, ahead of Power 5 opponents N.C. State (+12), Ohio State (+13), Maryland (+14), and SMU (+15).Â
The 54-hole tournament will conclude with an 8:45 a.m. shotgun start among foursomes. Furman will tee off of No. 8 through No. 11 and will play in a group with Mississippi State, North Carolina, and Michigan State. Live tournament scoring will be available via http://www.golfstat.com.
