CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Junior Anna Morgan (-5) tied for eighth to lead the Furman women's golf team Sunday in the final day of the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational at the par 72, 6,393 yard UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C.
A native of Spartanburg, S.C., Morgan teed off on No. 8 in the shotgun start. She birdied No. 14 and No. 17 and turned at 1-under. Morgan added consecutive birdies on No. 4 and No. 5 to card a team-best 69 and finish six strokes back of individual medalist Rachel Kuehn of Wake Forest who posted a three-day total of 70-63-72=205.
Sophomore Sophia Burnett (+5) shot a 74 on Sunday to tie for 47th, while freshman Savannah Hylton (+6) fired a 1-under 71 with birdies on No. 4 and No. 11 to tie for 52nd. Senior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+8) finished in a tie for 61st after recording a 79 with birdies on No. 3 and No. 17 in the final round, and senior Kyra Cox (+9) carded an even 72 with birdies on No. 3 and No. 13, tying for 64th.Â
Wake Forest (-17) won the tournament by 10 strokes over Clemson (-7). Virginia Tech (-5) was third, followed by Alabama (-2) in fourth. Kentucky (-1) and Duke (-1) tied for fifth. The Paladins (+7) finished in 11th place, ahead of Power 5 opponents Michigan State (+9), Maryland (+11), N.C. State (+12), Ohio State (+14), and SMU (+25).
The Paladins were third in the field with 182 pars and ranked seventh with a 3.05 par three average.Â
Furman will conclude the fall season Oct. 29-31 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
