WILMINGTON, N.C. -- Senior Kyra Cox (E) is tied for 12th to lead the Furman women's golf team Friday in the opening day of the Landfall Tradition at the par 72, 6,150 yard Country Club of Landfall's Pete Dye Course in Wilmington, N.C.

A native of South Salem, N.Y., Cox teed off on No. 10 and recorded consecutive birdies on No. 13 and No. 14 to turn at one under, then added an additional birdie on No. 4 to finish with an even par 72.  She sits five strokes back of leader Justine Fournand (-5) of South Carolina who carded a 67 on Friday.

Freshman Savannah Hylton (+1) and sophomore Caroline Crumrine (+1), who is playing as an individual, are tied for 19th after each notched a one-over 73 in round one.  Hylton posted a team-high six birdies with three on the front and three on the back, while Crumrine birdied No. 13 and No. 18.  

Junior Anna Morgan (+2) is tied for 27th after tallying a 74 with birdies on No. 6 and No. 12, and sophomore Sophia Burnett (+6) scored a 78 with birdies on No. 16 and No. 18.  Senior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+7) carded a 79 with three birdies to enter Saturday's second round tied for 76th. 

Fifteenth-ranked Michigan (+1) lead the tournament by one stroke over No. 4 Virginia (+2).  Sixth-ranked South Carolina (+3), No. 6 Texas (+3), and No. 33 Clemson (+3) are tied for third.  Furman (+9), which ranks 40th, is tied for 10th with N.C. State (+9), ahead of 33rd-ranked Illinois (+11), No. 18 Florida State (+15), No. 28 Purdue (+15), Maryland (+17), No. 39 North Carolina (+18), Penn State (+20), and host UNCW (+30).

The 54-hole tournament continues on Saturday.  Furman will tee off of No. 10 beginning at 10:09 a.m. and will play in a group with N.C. State and Illinois.  Live tournament scoring will be available via http://www.golfstat.com.
