Furman Falls At Chattanooga, 13-3

CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- Chattanooga combined balanced offense with strong defensive play to beat Furman, 13-3, in Southern Conference football action Saturday afternoon at Finley Stadium.

Using a Tyrell Price 42-yard run to Furman 2-yard line on the game's opening possession, teammate Ailym Ford followed on the next play with a two-yard touchdown plunge to stake Chattanooga (5-3, 4-1 SoCon) to a 7-0 lead, and that's all the Mocs would need to post their third straight victory.

Price rushed for game high 110 yards and was joined in triple rushing digits by Ford, who finished with 108.  Chattanooga finished with 245 yards rushing and 418 yards in total offense in the contest, which was played in misty, drizzling rain.

Furman (4-4, 2-3 SoCon), which managed only 157 total yards in the contest, stayed close with some timely defense, highlighted by a Travis Blackshear first quarter interception in the end zone that halted a UTC scoring threat.

The Paladins cut Chattanooga's lead to 7-3 in the third quarter, taking advantage of shanked Mocs' punt and a 20-yard pass from quarterback Jace Wilson to tight end Ryan Miller to set up a 29-yard Timmy Bleekrode.

Furman couldn't threaten thereafter, and UTC countered witha pair of Aaron Sears field goals covering 40 and 38 yards to push their advantage to 13-3.

Chattanooga ran 69 plays to Furman's 43, limited the Paladins to just six first downs, and almost doubled Furman in time of possession: 39:48 to 20:12.

Braden Gilby led all defenders with 12 tackles.
