Greenville, S.C. – Joseph Skinner had a goal and assist on Saturday evening to lift the 19
th-ranked UNC Greensboro Spartans to a 3-0 victory over the Furman Paladins in the sixth annual "Quinn Game" for Down Syndrome Awareness at Stone Stadium.
Furman drops to 2-7 on the season and 1-2 in SoCon play, while UNC Greensboro improves to 9-2-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Skinner contributed to the first two UNCG goals of the contest beginning in the 17
th minute, receiving credit for the assist on a through ball leading to JC Ngando's goal. He then scored from inside the 18-yard box in the 62
nd minute after intercepting a pass on a Paladin clear. Skinner's goal would put the Spartans ahead 2-0.
Daniel Mangarov and Basile Marc combined for UNC Greensboro's third goal in the 69
th minute. Mangarov received a pass from Marc and beat a Furman defender to score from 15 yards away, putting the score at 3-0.
Miles Fenton led the Paladins with three shots and was one of four players to record one attempt on net. In goal,
Ben Roberts registered five saves.
Skinner attempted a team-high five shots, including four on goal, for the Spartans. Goalkeeper Niclas Wild finished with three saves.
UNC Greensboro held a 23-10 advantage in shots and 8-4 in attempts on goal. UNCG also led 8-1 in corner kicks.
Furman steps back into non-conference play on Tuesday, October 12 to host Bob Jones at 7 p.m.
