Furman Set To Continue Road Stretch Thursday At Charleston Southern

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Furman's women's basketball squad is set to continue a season long five-game road stretch on Thursday when it takes on in-state foe Charleston Southern in a 5:30 p.m. contest at Buccaneer Fieldhouse.

The game will be live streamed via ESPN+ and also feature Sidearm live stats, with links to both available thru Furman's basketball schedule page on FurmanPaladins.com.

Furman (5-6) looks to shake a four-game losing skid when it faces winless Charleston Southern (0-7).  In their last outing the Paladins dropped a 63-36 road verdict at Georgia Tech on Sunday.  The Buccaneers, meanwhile, last saw the court on Dec. 5 when they lost an 83-32 contest against 25th-ranked Florida State.

CSU represents the fourth of five Big South Conference foes on Furman's 2021-22 schedule.  The Paladins own wins over Presbyterian (68-39) and UNC Asheville (64-49), but have lost to Radford (73-61).  Furman has Hampton (Dec. 20) on the slate, in addition to Charleston Southern.

The Paladins lead the all-time series versus Charleston Southern, 22-6, but the two programs haven't met in a decade, having last squared off during the 2011-12 season in a contest the Buccaneers won in overtime, 80-78, on their own court.  That verdict halted a 13-game Furman winning streak in the series.  The Paladins are 10-4 all-time versus CSU in Charleston.

Senior All-Southern Conference forward Tierra Hodges tops Furman on the stat sheet, averaging 15.0 ppg and 11.0 rpg.  She's followed by sophomore guard Tate Walters (13.3 ppg, 5.3 rpg).

To get back in the win column the Paladins are going to have to reacquire some shooting touch, which has been missing in the current four-game losing skid.  Head coach Jackie Carson's squad has shot just 30.4 percent from the field (75x247) during that stretch, including only 24.1 percent from 3-point range (21x87).

Hodges heads into Thursday's contest with 1,272 points and 1,022 rebounds, which ranks 13th and fourth, respectively, on Furman's career category ledgers.
