Greensboro, N.C. – UNCG's Isaiah Miller poured in a game-high 22 points and the Spartans withstood a late Furman rally to down the Paladins, 64-58, in Southern Conference action on Wednesday at the Greensboro Coliseum.
 
With the victory, UNCG earned a split in the season series with the Paladins and improved to 14-6 overall and 9-3 in the SoCon. Furman slipped to 12-7 overall and 6-4 in league play.
 
Facing a 25-21 deficit, UNCG closed the first half on a 16-3 run to carry a 37-28 lead into halftime. The Spartans maintained a comfortable lead for most of the second half and held a 59-46 advantage following Miller's layup with 6:18 to go.
 
On Furman's next possession, Mike Bothwell followed a miss with a put back and Alex Hunter drained a three-pointer next time down on an assist from Noah Gurley that was setup by Clay Mounce's hustling effort for an offensive rebound. After the Spartans and Paladins exchanged empty possessions, Mounce tossed an errant pass towards the corner that Hunter tracked down and fired for a three to cut the margin to 59-54 with 4:24 left.
 
With 3:41 remaining, Bothwell connected on two free throws following a media timeout to pull Furman within 59-56, but Angelo Allegri drained a long triple to up the Spartans' lead to 62-56 with 3:21 to play. UNCG held the Paladins to just 1-for-10 shooting over the final 3:20 and Keyshaun Langley converted on a pair of free throws with 47 seconds left to end the comeback attempt.
 
Furman shot just 31.6% from the field, including 9-for-34 from behind the arc, and were guilty of 18 turnovers. The Paladins did manage a 40-27 edge on the glass that included 19 offensive boards and 14 second chance points.
 
Mounce totaled 19 points and a career-best 16 rebounds to notch his fourth double-double of the season. Bothwell added nine points and eight rebounds.
 
The Spartans shot 45.8% on the night and connected on 14-of-20 trips to the foul line. Miller finished with 22 points, eight boards and three assists, while Langley added 11 points.
 
Furman will be back at Timmons Arena on Saturday to host Western Carolina. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+.
