Pinehurst, N.C. – Furman senior
Keller Harper is tied for 15
th place to lead the Paladin men's golf team following day one of the Wake Forest Invitational from the par 70, 7125-yard Pinehurst No. 2 Course.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Harper carded a 1-under 69 in the second round, highlighted by five birdies, to finish day one in the top-15 at 143 (74-69). Ranked 24
th nationally by Golfstat entering tournament play, Harper leads the Paladins in both par 4 scoring (4.08 stroke average) and par 5 scoring (E, 5.00 stroke average) while also contributing 24 pars.
Sophomores
Walker Crosby and
Reynolds Lambert both sit six strokes behind Harper in a tie for 35
th place at 149. Crosby posted rounds of 74-75 and Reynolds carded 75-74. Sophomore
Ross Funderburke is currently tied for 44
th place with a total score of 151 (77-74). Junior
Jack Crosby rounds out the individual leaderboard for Furman tied for 47
th place at 153 (77-76).
Following two rounds of competition, the Paladins are in eighth place after recording rounds of 300 and 292 for a combined score of 592. Furman is three strokes behind seventh-place Augusta and four back of Wake Forest (B) in sixth place.
Wake Forest leads the Wake Forest Invitational by eight strokes over North Carolina with a 3-under 557. Individually, Michael Brennan of Wake Forest sits atop the individual leaderboard at 3-under par 137. He leads teammate Eric Bae and North Carolina's Peter Fountain by one stroke.
The Paladins concluded day one with a 3.23 stroke average in par 3 scoring, 4.22 stroke average in par 4 scoring and 5.50 stroke average in par 5 scoring. Furman also collected 107 pars and 18 birdies.
The Paladins will tee off their final round of the Wake Forest Invitational on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
