CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Furman improved to 2-0 in the Southern Conference with a 6-1 win over The Citadel Saturday at the Earle Tennis Center in Charleston, S.C.

The Paladins won two of three doubles matches to claim the first point.  Seniors Jake Bhangdia and Henrik Atlevi beat Josiah Schainblatt and Zvonko Bencedic, 6-3, in the top contest, then the Bulldogs' Will Graham and Hayden Schoemake topped senior Ivan Mitric and junior James Roelofse, 6-4, at number two to even the slate.  In the decisive flight three match up, senior Drew Singerman and freshman Ben Cahill held off Phillip Quinn and Lucas Robins, 6-4.

Furman won five of six singles matches, all in straight sets.  Mitric blew past Graham, 6-2, 6-2, at flight one, and Atlevi beat Bencedic, 6-2, 6-4, at number three.  At flight four, Singerman outlasted Quinn, 7-5, 6-4, and at number five, Roelofse topped Schainblatt, 6-4, 6-0.  Sophomore Chad Nash entered the Paladin lineup at flight six, where he recorded a 6-4, 6-2 advantage over Andrew Darby.

The Bulldogs scored at flight two, as Shoemake came from behind to defeat Bhangdia, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).

Furman (5-7, 2-0 SoCon) will play at Wake Forest Sunday at 2 p.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C.
