WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- No. 13 Wake Forest blanked Furman, 7-0, Sunday at the Wake Forest Tennis Center in Winston-Salem, N.C
The Demon Deacons won at flights two and three doubles to take the first point. Matthew Thomson and Siddhant Banthia defeated senior Ivan Mitric and freshman Ben Cahill, 6-1, at number two, and Adam Ambrozy and Robert Maciag recorded a 6-2 advantage over senior Drew Singerman and freshman Emil Westling at number three. The flight one match was unfinished, with Furman seniors Henrik Atlevi and Jake Bhandia leading Eduardo Nava and Henri Squire, 5-4.
Wake Forest (18-4, 6-1 ACC) won all six singles matches in straight sets. Squire topped Mitric, 6-3, 6-2, at flight one, and Taha Baadi entered the lineup at flight two, where he defeated Bhangdia, 6-2, 6-2. At number three, Nava downed Atlevi, 6-1, 6-2, and Maciag beat Westling, 6-2, 6-0, at number four. Ambrozy recorded a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Singerman at flight five, and Juan Lopez de Azona scored a 6-3, 6-2 win versus Cahill at number six.
Furman (5-8, 2-0 SoCon) will travel to Clemson Monday for a 5 p.m. contest at the Duckworth Family Tennis Facility. The Tigers are 6-9 overall and 1-6 in the ACC after losing at Virginia, 5-2, last weekend. The teams last met last season, when Clemson defeated Furman, 5-2, to take a 34-4 series lead.
